How I Am Healing My Leaky Gut

Yesterday I was inspired to meal prep and get a little more creative in the kitchen than I have been lately. I was falling into a rut of quickly making salads in the morning before work just so I have some type of lunch with me. This was getting pretty boring pretty quickly. It was a different day but the same salad over and over again. Don’t get me wrong, they were tasty salads! I would throw in spinach, cucumbers, watermelon radishes, olives, red bell peppers, garlic powder

High-fat diet 'lowers risk of dementia'

A DIET high in fat reduces the risk of getting dementia, research has revealed. It found dementia sufferers were more likely to have low cholesterol levels, while those with high cholesterol - linked to a diet rich in saturated fats - were significantly less likely to have signs of the disease. The study, published in the journal Frontiers in Neurology, examined 3,836 people aged over 50. Taking into account other factors such as diabetes, blood pressure and body mass index,

    Coconut Almond Butter Bites

Life has been moving SO fast lately! Last time I checked my calendar, it was summer... and now it's fall in New England! I actually prefer the fall and I don't think it lasts long enough! There's usually no spring or fall in New England and we either get 90 degree days or 30 degree days! So, I'm thriving in this fall weather where I can cozy up but not have to put on tons of layer to walk outside. When the seasons change, we change. Our needs and desires change with the weath

    Kale Chips: A Superfood Snack

It’s Friday eve everyone! That means only one sleep until the weeekdend is in full swing. I went on a little food prep binge last night and made lots of goodies that I am so excited to share! I usually always like the start with the easiest thing to make first just to get it out of the way while I’m prepping. I haven’t had kale chips in a while and I totally forgot how good they are and how simple they are to make! So, let’s talk kale! Kale is no ordinary green. It is actuall

Fat Bombs: Break the Fat Fear

If you follow me on Instagram @inspirednutritionandhealth or have seen a few of my past blog posts, you will notice that I certainly do not shy away from fat and that I actually try to incorporate it into each meal or snack that I have. If this is first time you are visiting my site, hi! My name is Katie and I love to eat yummy, fat filled foods that nourish my body and give me plenty of energy to do what I love. Back in the 90's, dietary fat got a bad rep for being attribute

    The Better Fry

Who loves french fries? Wait, a better question is, who doesn't love french fries?! They come with every meal and taste so dang good. French fries are usually made from white potatoes but they can also be made from sweet potatoes or really any vegetable for that matter! White potatoes taste great but they don't give us as much nutrition as other vegetables can. One of my favorite vegetables to french fry are Jicamas. Raise your hand if you have never heard of a Jicama before

    Turmeric Scrambled Egg Bowl

Almost every morning I will start my day off with eggs for breakfast. I am egg obsessed! They are packed full of protein, vitamin B12 and vitamin D. They help to hold me over until my next meal or snack. Rarely do I ever have eggs just by themselves. I usually always will have a vegetable or healthy fat mixed into it and load it up with seasonings galore. I am a big tasty food advocate. I recently started adding turmeric into my scrambled egg mix to get in some extra nutrient

    Probiotics or Nobiotics?

Did you know that we have more bacteria in our body than there are stars in the sky? Wow. That's seriously hard to imagine! The bacteria in our gut have created a world of their own and function independently to break down and digest our food so that we are able to absorb and extract the nutrients from the food we are eating. However, not all of the bacteria in our gut are nice. It's almost like a superhero movie where the villains try to take over the city and destroy all th

Apple Cider Vinegar: The Magical Tonic

One of my favorite drinks for the summer is an apple cider vinegar tonic. Apple cider vinegar probably isn't the first thing you think about reaching for when you want to cool down because it is known for its pungent taste and odor. It is a powerful fermented juice from crushed apples that has amazing health benefits! A (fermented) apple a day keeps the doctor away! This juice is so versatile it could be used in cooking, drinking and even household cleaning. I'll even include

Detoxing: what is it and do we really need one?

Detox. It seems like this word is thrown around a lot lately without much knowledge of what it actually means. I often hear it used in phrases like, “My body needs to detox from sugar” or “I’m going on a detox this weekend”. The word detox actually means to remove toxins from the body that have built up over time and is a system of cleansing the body of these harmful substances. Detoxing is not an easy feat and surely cannot be done in a weekend alone! Our body is bombarded w
